The Next Big Thing in Volleyball: The Davyskiba Family: Anna

Anna and Vlad Davyskiba, the Belarusian pride of Vero Volley Monza, are the example of a young, yet very successful Volleyball family. Shining on the courts in Italy and on the European stage in their respective competitions (Anna plays in the Champions League Volley, while Vlad competes for the CEV Cup), both share the same dream, while raising a beautiful child. Coming from Belarus to Italy, we could say that they have completed each Volleyball player’s dream – to play in Italy. Still so young, both of them might very well be The Next Big Thing in Volleyball.
Today, we get to meet Anna.

For Anna, the 21-year-old outside spiker of the Italian Vero Volley Monza, the season has been going pretty good so far. MVP of the CLVolleyW match of her team against ASPPT Mulhouse VB (first win in Europe’s elite competition), Anna delivered an outstanding performance (17 points, two aces and two blocks, and 54% in attack). She did very well against the World Club Champs of VakifBank Istanbul as well (16 points to her name).
In the Italian league, where Davyskiba competes for a second season, she has so far 85 points in 12 matches. But what’s her story?
The Beginning
Anna started with Volleyball at the age of 10, when a coach approached her at school.
“He suggested that I went to a trial training session, and so it began. I liked it a lot, and stayed in Volleyball.”

For the years in Volleyball, Anna has many nice memories, but the one that she remembers brightly and brings in her heart, is the first medal at a children’s competition.
Going Pro
Seeing that Volleyball might be a good choice for her, and she enjoyed it, Anna decides to continue as a professional player, when at the age of 14, she was offered a temporary contract.
“In the same year, I played in the European championship for the youth national team of Belarus. It was then when I realized that I wanted to play professionally”.

The Italian experience
In the summer of 2020, Vero Volley Monza announced the arrival of Anna into the team. She has been, since then, a pivotal player in the squad of head coach Marco Gaspari. Being in Monza together with her husband, has had, for sure, a positive impact on the adaptation of Anna to the team, and to her new, Italian life.
“I am happy that my first years of career abroad are in Italy. I want to thank Monza that it happened so. It is a great chance for me to show what I can, and be in the same city with my husband,” Anna says.
The Champions League
In 2021, Saugella MONZA won the CEV Cup Women, and in this season, the MONZA team is competing at the Champions League. For Anna, this is a great experience that she can learn from.
“We have the opportunity to play with other teams of different championships and levels. It is very interesting, and it gives us another perspective and broader understanding and sense of the game. Not only of Italian Volleyball, but also of other championships.”

The national team
Davyskiba is one of the key players in the women’s national team of Belarus. The most recent experience that the 188cm tall Anna had with on the national stage was at EuroVolleyW. Qualifying after hosting a Qualifier in Belarus, Anna and her teammates then competed in Pool C in Croatia. They proceeded ahead to the eight finals, but were stopped by Russia.
Davyskiba is aware that the team has a long road ahead and has to grow, but she believes in the potential of Belarus, and dreams big.
“I would very much like to get to the Olympic Games together with the national team, but before that, we still have to work a lot, continue growing and improving.”
The Family
Being in a Volleyball family, Anna admits that with her husband, Vlad, they are an example for each other.
“It’s no secret that young players have ups and downs. We are learning a lot, not only from our teammates and our coaches, but also from each other. We help each other, we motivate each other not to give up, we try to support each other in difficult times. I think this is one of the key moments of our growth.”

The Dreams
Besides the dreams that Anna has for her sport career (as becoming a champion in different competitions), on a more personal level, Davyskiba dreams also of a healthy, happy, and big family. So far, so good, as they say as the Dayskiba family seem to be on the right track.
Next week, we will get to know better the other half of The Next Big Thing: The Davyskiba Family – Vlad Davyskiba. Stay tuned.
