The first stop of this year’s EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour ended on Sunday in Koropove with an all-Lithuanian gold medal match where Monika Povilaityte and Ieva Dumbauskaite emerged victorious from the clash with their compatriots Urte Andriukaityte and Irina Zobnina.

Baku, Azerbaijan, May 22, 2017. The 2017 edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games ended on Sunday in Baku – and the programme of the final day included, inter alia, the medal matches in the men’s Volleyball competition. After sweeping all of their games in the pool phase, hosts Azerbaijan eventually settled for the silver medal, a truly historic result – especially since they lost the ‘grand finale’ to a men’s Volleyball powerhouse such as Iran. This accounts for the first ever medal won by Azerbaijan in any international men’s Volleyballcompetition.

Luxembourg, May 21, 2017. Russia and Poland completed on Sunday a clean sweep of their matches in their respective qualifiers to book a ticket to the 2017 edition of the FIVB U20 Women’s World Championship – thus joining Italy and Serbia who were qualified already by virtue of their position in the current FIVB ranking for this age category. Russia had to fight for five sets and come back from two down before edging Pool F hosts Turkey in Turgutlu whereas Poland used the home-court advantage to the fullest to edge Belgium 3-1 and make sure they will also board the plane to Mexico later this summer.

Poland lived up to the expectations and on Sunday secured their qualification to the 2017 FIVB U21 Men’s World Championship after completing a clean sweep of their matches in Pool F – following a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-23, 26-24) over hosts Germany at Sportforum in Berlin. Poland join the winners of Pool E, Ukraine, hosts Czech Republic plus Russia and Italy – qualified by virtue of their position in the latest FIVB ranking for this age category – to compose the European contingent for this year’s World Championship.

Luxembourg, May 20, 2017. On Saturday night, Ukraine secured their qualification to the 2017 FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship after recording their third straight win in as many matches in the European qualifier – Pool E held in Požarevac, Serbia. The silver medallists from the 2016 U20 Men’s European Championship beat hosts Serbia 3-1 (26-24, 25-12, 18-25, 25-22) to book a ticket to the Czech Republic where the World Championship will be taking place in late June. In Pool F, hosts Germany and Poland will be fighting for the sole spot remaining to make it to the Worlds in a much-awaited matchup coming up on Sunday.
