Galatasaray storm to Golden Set win to play TRENTINO in 2019 CEV Volleyball Cup - Men final

Luxembourg, March 5, 2019. Galatasaray ISTANBUL fought their way back from a 1-3 loss last week at the hands of Kuzbass KEMEROVO to claim the return match by the same score and take the all-important Golden Set to end the winning streak of the Russian rookies and secure a spot in the final of the 2019 CEV Volleyball Cup – Men. Galatasaray will be playing there reigning world champions TRENTINO Itas of Italy, who easily took the two sets they needed in the other semi with Greece’s Olympiacos PIRAEUS.

Bigbank TARTU crowned new champions of Credit24 Champions League

Tartu, Estonia, March 4, 2019. Bigbank TARTU claimed on Sunday the team’s first major title since 2015 – when they last became the champions of the Estonian – Latvian united league as well – as they secured top honours from the 2019 Credit24 Champions League. In the semi-finals, TARTU beat PÄRNU VK 3-0 before pulling out a dramatic 3-2 (21-25, 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 19-17) victory in the grand finale with SAAREMAA VC.

Tuomas Sammelvuo to lead Russian men’s national team

Moscow, Russia, March 1, 2019. Tuomas Sammelvuo is the new head coach of the Russian men’s national team after a decision taken by the Presidium of the Russian Volleyball Federation. The 43-year-old former international player is currently coaching Kuzbass KEMEROVO in the Russian Superleague and steps away from the same position he held in his home country since 2013.

Teamwork and increased participation in CEV competitions emphasised at ESOC

Luxembourg, March 1, 2019. The European Sports Organising Commission (ESOC) had their annual plenary meeting earlier this week at the ‘Home of European Volleyball’ in Luxembourg. The ESOC members had a productive exchange of views and emphasised the necessity to work on the delivery of an event experience at all national team competitions, thus following the strategic vision set by the CEV leadership.
