Moscow Open to continue Beach Volleyball marathon in Russian capital

Moscow, Russia, June 3, 2015. It’s only three days since the FIVB Moscow Grand Slam came to a close with the final matches on Sunday and the Vodniy stadium will re-open its doors to another international Beach Volleyball event, the double-gender Moscow Open which is part of this year’s EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour. The 2015 season for EEVZA got started already in May with two women-only events held in Molodechno, Belarus and in Vilnius, Lithuania. This time around both men and women will join the competition at the Vodniy stadium in Moscow where the Grand Slam held last week was a huge success with a sell-out crowd for the final days of competition.

It has been a long-time coming and after 62 events and 332 matches on the FIVB World Tour, Spain’s Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira have “finally” captured a gold medal on the international circuit by posting a hard-fought two-set victory Sunday in the US$800,000 Moscow Grand Slam over a new team – Evandro Goncalves and Pedro Salgado of Brazil.

Estonia shatter Sweden’s dreams of making EuroVolley finals

Halmstad, Sweden, May 31, 2015. On Sunday afternoon Estonia qualified for the Final Round of this year’s CEV Volleyball European Championship – Men by scoring a 3:0 win in Halmstad (28-26, 25-22, 25-9) to shatter Sweden’s dreams of joining Europe’s elite for the first time since 1993. Estonia had already claimed a 3:1 victory at home last week and after securing the first two sets of their re-match with the Swedes, they could already celebrate their qualification for the Volleyball highlight of the year that is due to take place in Bulgaria and Italy. Estonia join Italy, France and Croatia in Pool B that will be played at Palavela in Turin, the iconic venue that hosted the figure skating and short track speed skating events of the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Jurmala Masters a huge success, says CEV President

Luxembourg/Jurmala, Latvia, May 26, 2015. The Jurmala Masters – first stop of this year’s CEV Beach Volleyball European Championship – that came to a close on Sunday with Italy’s twins Matteo and Paolo Ingrosso claiming their first gold medal in an international tournament was a major success. CEV President André Meyer was also in attendance for the final days of competition and was pleased with the show delivered by the organisers of the huge ‘Beach Volleyball party’ held right by the Baltic Sea.
