Russia wins XII Wagner Memorial in Krakow

Krakow, Poland, August 19, 2014.  The men’s national team of Russia won the twelfth edition of the Hubert Wagner Memorial tournament that took place in Krakow.  Host Poland and the teams of Bulgaria and China also took part in the 3-day competition on the eve of the FIVB Volleyball World Championship Poland 2014.

2014 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship for women in Tartu

Tartu, Estonia, August 17, 2014. The Czech Republic struck Bulgaria in four sets (25-20, 25-17, 20-25, 25-17) on the second day of Preliminary Round action in Pool I of the 2014 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship – Women at Tartu’s A. Le Coq Sports Hall on Sunday afternoon. Serbia proved too strong for Greece (25-20, 25-13, 25-16) to improve their records to 2-0 while the Netherlands beat Estonia in straight sets as well (25-21, 25-21, 25-10).

Boys’ duos from Europe with maximum gains on Youth Olympics’ opening day

Nanjing, China, August 18, 2014. The only two losses that European teams suffered on the first day of the boys’ beach volleyball tournament at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Games were against other European teams.  Thus, the nine duos representing the Old Continent managed to gain the maximum possible number of seven victories on Sunday at the Nanjing Sports Park Complex.

All European girls start victorious in Nanjing

Nanjing, China, August 18, 2014. All nine teams from Europe won their opening pool play matches on Sunday during the first day of women’s beach volleyball competition at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games at the venue where 3,300 tons of sand was used to construct the four competition and two warm-up courts.  Tandems from Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Russia, Switzerland and Turkey posted wins on Sunday when only two of the 16 matches played went to three sets.  Two of the European wins by pairs from Switzerland and Turkey were by forfeit over teams from Nigeria and Sierra Leone, which did not arrive in China due to the Ebola outbreak in their countries.

Turkey and Russia get last tickets to Grand Prix finals in Tokyo

Luxembourg, Luxembourg, August 18, 2014.  The women’s national teams of Turkey and Russia booked the last two tickets to the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix 2014 Final Six.  They achieved three-point victories against Italy and Germany, respectively, on the last day of pool play, which put them next to host Japan, winner of the pool round Brazil, runner-up China and Group 2 winner Belgium among the squads that will be vying for this year’s honors from August 20 through 24 in Tokyo.
