Nantes, France, June 24, 2017. Ukraine have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2017 CEV Volleyball European League - Women with a match to spare. A 3-0 win (25-16, 25-15, 25-14) over Georgia was enough to ensure they will top Pool B and as such are guaranteed a place in the next phase of the competition.

Baden, Austria, June 24, 2017. Only a few could have predicted it but on Saturday afternoon Julius Thole and Lorenz Schümann caused a real sensation before a sell-out crowd at the Strandbad in Baden, when they beat top-seeded, former European champions Janis Smedins and Aleksandrs Samoilovs of Latvia to claim a spot in the semis of the Baden Masters.

After a thunderstorm in the early hours of Friday, the heat was a bit more ‘bearable’ at the Strandbad but the atmosphere was nevertheless extremely ‘hot’ for the highlight of the day in the men’s competition at the Baden Masters. Home favourites Daniel Müllner and Florian Schnetzer were only two points away from causing a major sensation in their matchup with top-seeded Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins of Latvia but the Austrians ended up losing at the tiebreak.

Cherkasy, Ukraine, June 22, 2017. The Ukrainian city of Cherkasy will be hosting this coming weekend the 2017 edition of the EEVZA U17 Men’s Volleyball Championship, with five teams – Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania and hosts Ukraine – fighting for the medals. This is the second international competition to take place in Cherkasy this year after this city played host also to a second-round qualifier to this year’s U17 European Championship back in April.

Minsk, Belarus, June 19, 2017. Volleyball and Beach Volleyball have been growing steadily in the Republic of Belarus. The Belarusian men’s and women’s national teams have been participating in all major international competitions – thus achieving very encouraging results, including a bronze medal from this year’s U18 Women’s European Championship. Beach Volleyball is also growing at a fast pace, and a number of facilities are now available for players to train and develop. However, Volleyball is growing also at an amateur level in the country, which will host the 2019 edition of the European Games.
