Thrilling men’s Supercup to deliver domestic season opener in Belarus
Minsk, Belarus, September 21, 2018. The 2018-2019 Volleyball season in the Republic of Belarus starts on Friday with the exciting men’s Supercup featuring the teams of Shakhtior SOLIGORSK and Stroitel MINSK. The match will be taking place at the Lokomotiv Sports Complex in the city of Gomel.
Shakhtior claimed the last edition of the Belarusian national league whilst Stroitel were the winners of the national cup. The reigning national champions look extremely motivated to take the first trophy at stake at the dawn of this season to Soligorsk. Both Shakhtior and Stroitel have strengthened their respective rosters, with Shakhtior contesting a number of friendly matches in Poland as they prepared for the start of the 2018-2019 season, including a game with the men’s national team of Cameroon that recently took part in the men’s World Championship in Bari, Italy. On top of this, the Belarusian champions took the bronze medal from the annual ‘Lviv Cup’ in Ukraine.
Stroitel had an intense preparation phase as well, participating in the tournament named after Lev Kalitko where they claimed the silver medal behind Russia’s powerhouse Zenit KAZAN. After that, they travelled to Saint Petersburg to take part in the 13th edition of the annual Memorial Vyacheslav Platonov, which featured many elite Russian teams such as Dinamo MOSCOW, Zenit SAINT PETERSBURG, Ural UFA and Nova NOVOKUYBYSHEVSK.
The fans can expect a real Volleyball party in Gomel with lots of side events, food stands and contests and the performance of the cheerleaders from the local school ‘Grace’ to go along with the Supercup match.
