Stroitel MINSK claim first-ever Supercup in Belarus

Monday 9th of October 2017

Minsk, Belarus, October 9, 2017. The very first edition of the Supercup of Belarus took place this past weekend, with Stroitel MINSK and Shakhtior SOLIGORSK adding another chapter to their domestic rivalry right at the beginning of the 2017-2018 season.

Stroitel MINSK are highly motivated as last year they lost the national league title for the first time after sweeping seven in a row – whereas national league winners Shakhtior are determined to prove that their historic success did not come by accident. On top of this, the head coach of Shakhtior, Viktar Beksha recently took over the men’s national team of Belarus, stepping in for Aliaksandr Sinhayeuski – who remains at the helm of Stroitel MINSK.

Before a full house at Mapid Sports Complex in Minsk, Stroitel rallied to a 3-1 victory (25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18) to claim the trophy – and this is only the beginning of what promises to be a truly exciting season packed with many closely contested matches.
