Friday 14th of September 2018

Sochi, Russia, September 14, 2018. The final EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour stop for men, where teams will compete for valuable FIVB ranking points, and the Russian Volleyball Federation’s Cup for women, where points for the national ranking are at stake, are both ready to roll in Sochi, September 15-17, 2018. The tournament will also mark the end of the EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour season after previous events held in Estonia, Latvia, Armenia and Georgia earlier this year.

There are 16 men’s teams from Poland, Russia and Belarus in the Main Draw of the tournament. Local fans are waiting to see the Russian team Denis Shekunov/Dmitrii Veretiuk, currently 17 and 16 years old respectively, who have had a pretty amazing year so far. Denis and Dmitrii won the 2018 CEV U20 Beach Volleyball European Championship in Anapa and 2018 FIVB U19 World Championship in Nanjing before claiming bronze at the U18 European Championship in Brno.

Meanwhile in the women s competition, Maria Voronina and Mariia Bocharova are the most titled team in Russia as they completely topped the charts in 2017 by becoming U18 and U20 European champions. This year the young girls retained their U20 European title and added a gold from the 2018 FIVB U19 World Championship to their resume. For both teams this tournament will become the last preparation stage before the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina.

The tournament in Sochi will last until Monday, when the eventual winners will be crowned. Until then, the Olympic capital of Russia will become the capital of Beach Volleyball.
