Russian teams sweep top honours at EEVZA event in Batumi

Batumi, Georgia, October 9, 2017. Teams from Russia claimed the top honours from the EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour event held this past weekend in Batumi, Georgia. Maksim Khudyakov/Ruslan Bykanov beat Ukraine’s Iaroslav Gordieiev/Evgen Zhuravel in the men’s final (21-10, 21-12) as reigning U18 and U20 European champions Mariia Bocharova and Maria Voronina emerged victorious from the women’s final against Viktoryia Siakretava and Viktoryia Shalayeuskaya of Belarus (21-15, 21-19).

 

Teams from Ukraine and Russia claimed the bronze medals in the men’s and women’s competition, respectively. All of the medal matches were interesting to watch as they capped the successful organisation of an EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour event for the fourth straight year in Batumi, Georgia’s most popular seaside resort on the shores of the Black Sea. 

The final EEVZA event of the 2017 season will run from Wednesday to Saturday in Baku, Azerbaijan in combination with a CEV Satellite tournament at the iconic Beach Arena which hosted the Beach Volleyball competition of the Baku 2015 European Games.
