Minchanka MINSK achieve historical result at CEV Volleyball Cup
Luxembourg, February 27, 2018. Minchanka MINSK are the first team to secure a spot among the top four of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Cup - Women. After a successful four setter against Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG last week, Minchanka came back home to play the re-match, which finished in straight sets. This is the first time in history of Belarusian Volleyball that a team from this country has made it this far in the CEV Volleyball Cup.
Here are all the results of #CEVCupW on Tuesday:
Minchanka MINSK made history in Belarusian Volleyball, becoming the first team from their country to reach the semi-finals of the CEV Volleyball Cup. In addition to that, the fans broke the record of attendance, with 1,700 spectators witnessing Minchanka MINSK victory against Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG. The match was led by two coaches, Nikolay Karpol and Viktar Hancharou, who knew players of the opposition from their previous work together. Karpol worked with Belarus national team in 2009 - 2010, while Hancharou knows Hanna Klimets and Anastasiya Harelik as they are both key players of the Belarusian national team. The latter was part of Minchanka MINSK squad from 2007 to 2013. Katsiaryna Sakolchyk was named the best player of the match, with 16 points scored for the home team.
Hanna Klimets, opposite of Uralochka-NTMK EKATERINBURG: “Today we were not able to control our nerves, because we were affected by the pressure we felt in this game. Today we did not do well in reception, so any combination was very difficult to implement. In short, we should have played better. Although we have been preparing to play against our opponent, today Minchanka surprised us with the speed of their game.”
Anzhelika Barysevich, middle blocker of Minchanka MINSK: ”We are insanely happy about the result, especially since the game was difficult. In comparison with the match in Ekaterinburg, we did not see anything new, but we tried to give the opponent a couple of surprises. In the third set, of course, we allowed them to compete at full range, and of course such a rival, a team of such a high level, could not lose easily with a 3-0 score, even though they wanted to take a set.”
Viktar Hancharou, coach of Minchanka MINSK: “We are happy because we have made history. For the first time a Belarusian club has reached the semi-finals of the CEV Volleyball Cup. I am happy for my girls, they did things many people did not believe they could do. But our team believed in it, worked and prepared for this scenario. The main plan for the match was to make the game faster, to play with our middle blockers. The main goal was to maintain a good reception and make sure Uralochka would find it difficult to control our serve. When we achieved that, the first tempo was eliminated from their game. Тhere were some mistakes on our side, but they were minimal and that makes me very happy.”
