Barkom-Kazhany LVIV hope to upset Swiss champions in CEV Cup opening round
Lviv, Ukraine, November 6, 2018. On Wednesday, November 7, Barkom-Kazhany LVIV will be hosting Swiss national champions LAUSANNE UC as the 2019 edition of the CEV Volleyball Cup – Men gets underway. Last year, LVIV claimed a historic home victory (3-1) over Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD of Serbia before losing the re-match in three sets and the Golden Set as well. As a result, they failed to progress to the 16th Finals. Back in the 2016-2017 season, Barkom-Kazhany lost to Vojvodina in the CEV Volleyball Cup as well.
This year the players from Lviv are more determined than ever. “The match with LAUSANNE UC promises to be a tough one. They are a very serious rival. They are the reigning champions of Switzerland but we are a tough team too,” said Ugis Krastins, head coach of Barkom-Kazhany.
According to the head coach, during the off-season, the roster of Barkom-Kazhany underwent many changes; therefore, the local fans will have something to look for in the matchup with LAUSANNE UC. The roster of the Swiss team includes, among others, Dennis Del Valle and David Feughouo who represented Puerto Rico and Cameroon at this year’s World Championship in Italy and Bulgaria as well as Norway’s very eclectic player Jonas Kvalen.
All European matches in Lviv have great resonance among the local fans, with all tickets sold a few days beforehand already. Therefore, Barkom-Kazhany expect much support from the stands in their attempt to upset the reigning Swiss national champions.
